Need cheap "pay as you go" sim card. Where is the best place to get them in Sydney?

My friend is going to Aus from the UK, and would like to use her phone while there and not cost a fortune. A cheap pay as you go sim card seems ideal. If she were visiting London from abroad I would suggest buying a sim card from Tesco for under a fiver. What is the equivalent In Aus? Cheers and G'day!

G´day mate,
A aussie sim card may or may not work in a english phone, mine didnt but my husbands did and they are both samsungs.

There is no cheap sim card here (the technology of mobiles etc) are not as good as the uk, i suggest the best way to go is vodafone pre pay card which you can get a $49 cap on it which gives about $250 of calls and only lasts one month
have a great trip
Usually if you go on line you can buy them from as little as 50pence, my friend brought a tmobile payas you go sim card on line from tmobile for 50p so your friend could try that. Good luck.
Best "Pay as you go" would be the prepaid sim cards available very easily in Sydney, there are various optus/vodaphone franchises, you might find one at the airport itself. Here you can subscribe for a new sim, once you have your SIM, you can easily add credits as and when you want by recharging (the recharge amount can be anything from $25.00 to $100.00).
The best thing is even if you finish your credits people can still call you, because incoming is free. Also make sure the phone you are taking along is not locked with your wireless provider.
Have a nice trip.
I paid $25 for mine from a shop in Sydney it was in the center near Sydney Uni (Get off at Central) it's about 5-10mins walk. Or anywhere in Kings cross
Visit Vodafone in arrivals at Sydney airport I'm sure they would be able to help you out with a prepaid Sim card.
You should try the payphone cards - you can use them on public telephones or hotel phones (just dial in the code on the card) before dialling the UK number. They were great we bought one for 7dollars, were there 6 weeks and we called everone and it lasted us up to the end of the holiday. We bought it at the bus station in Perth but you can buy them everywhere. There was a special offer on ours it should have been 10 dollars. I know its not a sim card but it sure saves you money.
