Why don't you send a text message instead?
I live in Turkey and often send text messages to friends and family in UK because it's a cheap and easy way to keep in touch.
Ultimately, it depends on which price plan you're on.

If you get a "Call Abroad" SIM card for £5, you pay 18p a minute to a Turkish Mobile, 12p a minute to a Turkish Landline, and 15p for an SMS, all on a PAYG basis.

Otherwise, Turkey is in Orange's "Rest of the World Zone 1", priced at 80p a minute to call, and 19p for an SMS.
