If you are flying, a good option is staying at a Disney value resort. They are actually cheaper than some of the resorts outside of the disney compound AND you get free transport from the airport (eliminating the need for rental car) and free transportation to the parks.
We just went over the summer but we are members of bluegreen vacation club so that wouldn't help you. Before we went, I did a search on the internet and found several nice places at decent rates. The internet is always helpful. They even had pictures - you can take a virtual tour.
go on priceline.com and put in what you are willing to spend, chances are that you will get that price or something near to it as long as you are being realistic.
