How will my (relatively slight) Southern US accent be perceived in Scotland?

(West Virginia native)

Answers:
Well us Scots, we love the odd southern accent, its much better perceived than any other in my view other than the South African.
Have fun in Scotland what ever your going to do. Scotland is a great country, we welcome every single person
I am a texan and they liked me just fine in Glasgow
Everyone loves southern accents as long as you dont sound like BLUE COLLAR TV FAKE SOUTHERNERS!

Try to sound cajun, thats usually a big plus.
you wont really care, you will be trying to understand theirs m8, good luck..
im scotish u wont find it a problem fitting in
conversations will be fun, you wont understand them and they wont understand you
As a relatively slight Southern US accent I expect.
No-one will care about your accent in a negative way, but some Scottish ones can be hard to understand!!
(But some are incredibly sexy - you know who you are, Edinburgh dwellers!!)
it's not like they'll be prejudice against you, and if you live there long enough, you'll have a Scottish accent, I know, because I have a sister that moved to Scotland.
Scottish people are fantastic, they take everyone as they see them, I went to visit my sister for a weekend in Edinburgh, 7 years ago, when home packed my bags and I am still here, I love Scottish people and Scottish life!!
Frankly maa deaah I dont give a damn!
your allways welcome in Bonny Scotland.
Very unlikely anyone will notice it is a Southern accent - all Americans sound pretty much the same to most British people.
You'll have to say that again, I never understood a word of what you said. Speak slower and stop playing that banjo!!
I moved to scotland with a broad belfast accent and now it's half scottish!

You'll be fine once you get to grips with it, and because its such a astrong accent you will defiately aquire it if your there for a length of time!
Don't let it worry you, trying to sort out fluent "Jimmy" will tax your brain. Offer to buy a round and you will find you have many new friends. Go For It.......
Scottish people love Americans. :-)
