Where can i view the route that a flight takes?
i am going long haul soon and want to know what im flying over..

Go the airlines website. They will give you details about flight - whether direct or via some point.
Most aircraft these days have inboard/onboard flight details so you get a rough idea at 33/35000ft where you are,of course if you are flying at night don`t expect to see too much!
I went into a control room with the maps on the wall. you should be able to buy the maps from stampfords covent garden london. The route the plane flys is a bit like a road on the ground. It seems to be preplanned and a plane is not allowed of these routes.
Most planes have a nice display of the world and your position on it using GPS like a car. So you will know where you are anyway.
If you had said which route you are going someone could have told you the exact route. Most planes do not go over the Pacific Ocean though.
There is a new airline going to Hong Kong from London. It is OasisHongKong they start their tickets at £75 one way!!
