How to get upgraded from economy to buisness class on virgin airlines?

Free upgrades are perfectly possible. You need to know somebody high-ranking in Virgin who has access to the reservations system. That got us bumped from economy straight to upper class. And very nice it was too!
Upgrades at check-in/gate are possible but the chances are slim. Check in as early as possible - that's worked for me as well.
Call your carrier, check on the availability of first class seats, if there is room, then you must pay the upgrade rate of course.
If you mean for free, no chance on Virgin.
The next class up is premium economy, then first.
You may wonder why no upgrade for free? I'll give you some true facts here, and you'll reach your own conclusion:
If the First Class on Virgin goes full (i.e all seats are sold), the WHOLE of the economy class is pure profit for the airline.
