Answers:
Air canada are usually pretty good. The cheapest airline I know to canada is a company call globespan (check their website) they fly from gatwick but I'm not sure if they will go to montreal or not but it's probably your best bet.
P.s I'm a travel agent
Phone a travel agent.
www.opodo.co.uk.xxx or www.zoom.com
Flights from Gatwick, through Canadian Affair.com, the airline carriers will be either Thomas Cook or My Travel.
www.flyzoom.com
www.easyjet.com.
The best low budget airline there is.
I recommend flyzoom.com (someone else got the answer), but let me explain why, from what I've seen, you get to pick which date and which price for that date, and the return, date and price. Give it a try -- you might be smiling. :)
I have seen Air Transat website with very good deals in flights from UK to Montreal.
