I went to Egypt from Cyprus on a three day cruise, definately check out the Tutankhaman museum and the pyramids and spinx do not go on a camel ride or ul spend a fortune trying to get back, they take Cyprus pounds from my experience not sure what else sorry!! Expect lots of people begging, lots of flies, lots of run down houses (when i say run down read hardly built!!) yet with satellite TV!! I don't mean to put you off put don't think it's safe to drink the water if you wish to see Egypt do so by doing a three day cruise from Cyprus very enjoyable lots of laughs very political country bodyguards on bus tour had guns and i mean guns!!
Are you nuts ?
your going somewhere and dont even know what the currency is? you shouldn't be allowed to travel.

i visited Egypt a few years ago and every where i went i had two armed gaurds who were very good and did not have any problems the people were lovely the pyramids were dissapointing at the end of a street not out in the middle of the desert as you think they are as cairo has expanded but i had a lovely time and look forward to returning there in the near future i wont tell you why i had an armed gaurd but the country and people are lovely and is something to see and experience
its amazing its very safe even after midnight it has a lot of places for fum sharm is fancy you have to go for diving or snorkeling in the red sea its unbelievable I'm sure that u will be very very happy , turkey is nothing compared to Egypt in fact i don't know ras um el sid but sharm is amazing but you have to visit luxor and Cairo for sure you have to see the pyramids and the Egyptian museum.
about the currency its Egyptian pound the one Egyptian pound equal 5.7 US$
Be prepared to be beseiged with children handing you little 'pendants'. This is how they come to recognise you as 'theirs' to pester and beg you for money. They're probaby not children at all but midgets! Don't be tempted to drink the water..bad idea.it's not called 'Egyptian Tummy' for nothing. Don't eat salads or have ice in your drinks as people often forget these things are . washed / made from the poor water. Do this and you'll have a wonderful time in a magical country. Nothing to wory about.. Enjoy !PS to keep begging children at bay ,pack lots of cheap colouring pencils or such like to hand them.
Sharm el Sheik is a Main tourist area, when I go on a Nile cruise in November I plan to take3 different sorts. Egyptian Pounds(5000 max), Sterling Travellers Cheques and British Pounds, I will also take my credit/debit cards but not sure how widely they are used as I have never been to Egypt before.
£1 GB = apx £10 ep

......Yep(Sharm El Sheik). Lovely people, you may find them a bit intimidating, but they very honest people. The Pyramids are disappointing though, very overrated. But the museum in Cairo is fantastic. Cairo is very busy but I felt very safe, go to the big market there, its brilliant. Also take a trip up the Nile at night, superb views. You can get a local bus from Sharm El Sheik for around £3, around 6 hour trip, I went at night, so I could sleep. Then you can take the underground to the station closest to the Pyramids. Then a short taxi ride to the Pyramids them self.
Learn just one bit of Arabic: Salam alah coome (not the actual spelling, but its how to pronounce) It means God be with you. It makes people smile and stops people trying to sell you stuff or hassle you. Good luck, enjoy
actully ras umm sid in sharm sheikh ( not the best place in sharm )
if you would like to go to sharm there are a place called naama bay
if you need more informitian contact with me
Sharm el Sheik is the most amazing place and my favourite in the world. I have just bought an apartment there and have been 10 times in the past two years. I have been there alone and with my kids and have made lots of friends and feel much safer than I would in a strange town here. The money is easy to work out, just base it on 10 egyptian pounds to one english pound.
namma Bay is great for eating out as it has loads of lovely restaurants, coffee shops and bars. It is quite cosmopolitan and has hard Rock Cafe, Little Buddah, Pizza Hut, Mcdonalds and KFC but also cuisine from all over the world.
the weather, diving and snorkling is amazing and the people are very friendly. You do get hastled to go into shops etc, but if youve been to Turkey its much the same as in the rest of the arab world but all you have to say is la-a shockran which means no thankyou or just say no thankyou and you will be left alone. Expect to haggle for everything and think to pay about a third of there first asking price. Always fix your price before you get in a taxi Be Kem? How much and they know you wont be ripped off, if you dont like their price just say no thankyou and walk away, they will either chase after you giving you your price or another taxi wil, Sharm is full of them, you never have to wait for a taxi!
Im sure you will have the most amazing time, good luck, hope you do and just dont worry, no harm will come to you.
DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY
