I am visiting friends in Mexico, is it permitted to bring in food items from the united kingdom?

There are enough answers here to give you the answer you looking for, but I can't help but wonder why your even considering taking food into Mexico. This may surprise you, but Mexico even has stores, huge malls, traffic lights, and paved roads. Stop thinking about the last John Wayne movie you saw.

Some fruits and vegetables may be prohibitted. Check with Customs.
You can bring food items into Mexico. Preferably that are in a closed package or sealed.
You are also allowed to bring these items:
- Personal items not for sale: Like shoes, clothes, toiletries
- Luggage
- A photograpic camera
- A videocamera
- Up to 12 rolls of film
- A pair of binoculars
- A cell phone and/or pager
- A laptop, new or used
- A camping tent
- 4 fishing poles and accesories
- Two used sporting equipments, that can be carried by one person
- A surfboard or windsurf
- A radio and/or recorder
- 5 DVDs and/or 20 CD's
- One musical instrument
- Books and magazines not for sale
- Up to 5 toys
- Prescription medicine (bring your prescription in case they have any questions)
Adult travelers may bring also:
- Up to 20 cigarrette packs
- 25 cigars or 200 gr of tobacco
- 3 liters of wine, beer or liquor

- Totoaba (a kind of fish) fresh, refrigerated or frozen
- Turtle eggs, shell or skin (any kind)
