.Going on holiday. Car seat check in??

I'm going to Rome with Ryanair on Sunday. I booked online and only paid for 1 baggage each person, but I nnow need to take my baby's car seat. Firstly will I have to pay for it per kilo? and secondly, how is best to check it in? I'm worried that if I just check in without packing it in something first tht it may get damaged??
can anyone offer me decent advice please

Answers:
Did you pay for a seat for the baby? If so, take the car seat on the plane with you and place the infant in it. This is the safest way for your baby to travel and I recommend that if you did not pay for a seat for the baby, do so in the future.

However, if you did not pay for a seat for the baby this time, I'd suggest that you carry the car seat with you to the gate and have the agent check it for you at the aircraft door. There should be no additional cost for this, it almost guarantees that the car seat will get on the plane, and it will probably be placed on top of the heavy items so it won't get damaged.
When you hire a car abroad you can hire a car seat, just do the tests to make sure it is installed properly, before you put baby into it.
