Staying in Calahonda for New year with husband and 3 kids, what are our options for going out on new years eve

Answers:
Spanish people do celebrate New Year´s Eve having dinner together and then eating the grapes with the 12th strokes; if you can eat them all at every strike of the clock then you will have good luck for the whole year. In main cities that´s celebrated in the main square (similar to Times Square in New York) of every city. In Granada people gather in the Town Council square and thosands of bags with 12 grapes are given for free there. There´s also live music and you can stay there and have a nice time (although you have to take into account that it´s quite cold in Granada that time of the year). You can choose among thosands of offers to go to discos or pubs or private parties to celebrate that too; people who don´t want to stay in the square late, go to any of the parties which are held. You´ll have a large variety to choose. But if you have children.. then the Town Council Square would be the best solution. Mix with the natives and you´ll have a great time!!
Calahonda: that´s the problem. Calahonda is a resort place for the summer and you can find pubs and discos that time of the year, but in winter.... If I were you, I´d come to Granada to celebrate New Year´s Eve here. Calahonda is almost dead in winter!!
New year is not as well celebrated in Spain as Three Kings Night on January 6th. There may well be some celebrations, its customary for each person to wear red knickers, and at the stroke of midnight, on each stroke, to shove a grape in your mouth until the last bong, then wash them all down with cava, and this is 100% . On the build up to new year, you will see red underwear for sale everywhere
I agree with the previous answer, less at we celebrate more the 3 wise men.New year eve is a great celebration even for children.but dont give cava to them!
