I am looking for a comprehensive airline fare calculator, with all the destinations in th world.?
Do IATA or Amadeus or any other group publish it in electronic or paper format? Is it accessile outside for those outside the travel agent business?
Answers:
Ignore the last answers (sorry!) The short answer is no. To get what you want you will need one of the four main GDS systems (GDS - Global Distribution System) These are Sabre, Galileo (both very good) Amadeus (was absolute rubbish but is getting there) and Worldspan (Okay as long as you don't mind illogical systems). There are a few other odds and ends like System 1 but nothing of real consequence. In order to have one, you really need an IATA licence, pay the fees and charges and then get permission from each airline. Once you have done that, you will need to learn the appropriate "native" language. (This is the line that makes:
0SR457Y14NOVLHRZRHNN1 book a flight or 117SEPBKKSIN1715*SQ get an availability display). Not to mention Hotels, Car Hire and a host of other bits and bobs. In the old days (and I mean back in the 1970's) even a fares manual for European flights was a tome about 3cms thick - and that was the simple stuff. There is nothing to stop you having one just to look at, but you may find paying a travel agent the £15 or $20 a tad easier.... and cheaper.
try www.expedia.com, I book all my flights, hotels and rental cars through them. Happy travelling!
Yes in paper form and it is used by Travel Agents.IATA.
