At any one time how many planes are their in the skies around the world?

Answers:
FAA claims it's impossible to give any kind of realistic estimate of the number of planes in the sky at one time. They do say there are 23,000 scheduled takeoffs and landings in the U.S. daily (610 of those are at Lindbergh; even more at Palomar and Montgomery). That's not 23,000 individual planes, of course; in a day the number is probably closer to a quarter of that. A single plane can take off and land many times in the course of 24 hours. So at 12:08 p.m. on a Tuesday, who knows how much metal is in the sky? Anyway, a real total of airborne things would have to include business jets, recreational (general aviation) flights, helicopters, blimps, and military operations. Too many imponderables for the FAA to deal with. They're still trying to figure out how to get us off the ground on time. And when it's the peak time for us to be left sitting on the runway? Thursday and Friday evenings between 6 and 9.

So around 23000 in the us alone and around 30000 in Europe + about 30000 in other parts of the world: 83000 but to be on the safe side I would say about 100.000 planes during the day.
I don't know but is it skies, are there more than one?
I suppose there must be or we wouldn't have plural word for the sky.

So where do they start and where do they finish?

I wish you hadn't asked this question I will be thinking about it all day now.
i lost count.
They mentioned in a 9/11 documentary that on that day they had to ground about 2,000 planes, just over the U.S. So you can figure there are at least twice that many in the sky around the world at any particular time. I'd estimate 4 to 5 thousand.
good ? i'm going to google it.
They are many , count the countries and airports then count the planes in or out , so you can find how many..

Its difficult to be accounted, so forget it.
I watched United 93 and Im sure they said there were a few thousand they had to ground. I thought it was only a few hundred at a time in the world, so interesting to hear that.
Very good question, thank you very much for letting me know the answer - Thanks to u to Neo T, a good answer.
I don't know but I do know that Richard Branson only has 3 planes in his fleet. Maybe you can work it out from that?
