If you want to experience India do not go on the palace on wheels unless you like a train full of complaining Americans, go by First class train and experience real train travel with real people, talk to other tourists and talk to the locals to. Book a sleeper train and you get free overnight accommodation and wake up in a new city.
Yes I have been on the Palace on wheels. Approx 14 years ago with my Husband and then teenage Daughter.
We started with 3 days in Delhi staying at one of theTaj group hotels. For this portion of the holiday we had our own driver and guide.
We then transferred to the palace on wheels and spent the next 16 days travelling the Golden Triangle of Rajesthan. It was a fantastic holiday, one still vivid in our memories.I would recommend it as way of taking your Hotel with you and seeing the country without having to constantly pack and unpack. As well as bringing employment and money to India.
I am sure like us you will have treasured memories to last a lifetime.
