Do GSM phones work in the US (New York City)?
Are there any networks in New York City on which a GSM cell phone will work? If yes, do you know of any networks that sell prepayd SIM cards?
Answers:
Your GSM phone will work fine here in NYC, but roaming will be expensive.
If your phone is unlocked you can get a tmobile or cingular or tracfone prepaid sim for close to nothing,
or just go to a radio shack, and buy a 'tracfone' prepaid phone for 30$
tracfone has the cheapest rates generally.
yea i have one here is washington. cingular and radio shack
yer i heard vodafone work well
GSM means Global Service Mobile. It should work where ever you go in the world but u need to buy a sim which can provide u the service at that place.
T-Mobile & Cingular both use GSM. You can buy SIM cards from either, but you'll likely find that they cost MORE than getting a whole new phone and a contract. (Cingular sells 2 year minimum contracts; T-M last I knew will sell a 1 year contract). Your best bet may be to find some secondary or gray market re-seller OR simply buy one of the low cost pre-paid phones that are sold all over.
If you have tri band your phone will work in the us,but it would probabley be better and cheaper if you got your phone unlocked and bought a sim card over there.
